Tirgan Festival is one of the signature cultural events organized by the Tri-Cities Iranian Cultural Society. It brings together Iranian-Canadian families, local residents, artists, vendors, performers, community organizations, and visitors from across Metro Vancouver for a joyful public celebration of Iranian culture.

In Coquitlam, Tirgan is presented as a welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly festival. It creates a space where Iranian heritage can be shared with the wider community through music, dance, food, art, storytelling, and cultural programming.

Tirgan is more than a cultural event. It is a celebration of identity, belonging, community, and the connection between generations.
Origins & Meaning

Where the Festival Comes From

Tirgan is an ancient Iranian festival traditionally associated with water, renewal, brightness, joy, and the arrival of summer. In Iranian culture, it carries themes of hope, harmony, gratitude, and collective celebration.

The festival is also connected with stories from Iranian mythology and history, including the legend of Arash the Archer, a symbolic figure of courage, sacrifice, peace, and the protection of homeland. Through these cultural meanings, Tirgan has remained an important celebration of Iranian identity across generations.
